Special of the week is a segment where I share my favorite recipe of the week. There will be a new post every Friday.
Some of the recipes will be my own, and others will be from around the internet and books. Most of the time, I tend to give my twist to the recipes I find. Either way, it will be clear you’ll always know who the creator.
If you are anything like me, you have the meals you tend to always run towards in a pinch. For me, those meals are ground beef, fish or chicken tacos, stir-fried beef and broccoli, chicken enchiladas, and baked pasta. I have a few go-to soups as well. I tend to keep a well-stocked pantry and freezer; this allows me to whip up something on the fly. I must have at least 50 or more cookbooks, yet I still defaulted to the same old things.
Why do Special of the Week?
Yes, there are a million and one food blogs and recipe sites already on the internet. But, let me share a little secret with you; it is not about recipes. Yes, cooking is a passion of mine. The caveat is, I love to cook for others. To be honest, I could live off fast food and pizza. Of course, it is up to me, but I am trying to treat myself better. It’s a self-care thing! To have a bit more fun and experiment, I decided to create the segment to “force” myself to try something new.
It Started on Twitter
Over on Twitter, each morning, I post a “smoothie of the day.” He’s a closely guarded secret: I am in love with Dannon Oikos Triple Zero Greek Yogurt. For some odd reason, they do not have a full list of flavors on their website. In case you are wondering which ones are missing, they are strawberry-banana, blueberry: lemon-tart, pineapple, mango, and more. My mornings would start with one of these yogurts every day. While they were quite tasty, I was getting quite bored. For a while, I kicked things up with homemade low-carb granola. Eventually, that became a drag.
To make sure I make my protein, I have a Premier Protein shake. They have nine flavors (strawberry, banana, caramel, cafe latte, chocolate, vanilla, pumpkin spice, caramel and cookies, and cream). Except for cookies and cream and pumpkin spice, I love them all. One day I looked at the yogurt and back to the protein shake, then Protein Smoothie of the Day was born. Over on Twitter is where I post Protein Smoothie of the Day. Thus far, I have made Lemon Blueberry, Chocolate Peanut Butter & Banana, and Strawberry Banana. That is just the first three posts; head over to Twitter to see the rest. Oikos has even commented on a few of my posts.
I was having some much fun in the Twitterverse; I decided to extend the fun to my blog with this weekly segment. Five times a week, I make something different for lunch or dinner. From those new adventures, ONE will become my weekly favorite recipe. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do. Make sure you sign up for post notification. You don’t want to miss anything.
